CLIMATE ACTION
Working to influence policy and inform the public on how and why to reduce waste, and dependence on natural resources. We work to enhance the city's recycling infrastructure and educate the community on how to reduce, reuse and recycle.
2023 Goals
-
Work with the City of Detroit to develop policies that divert more building materials from landfills. There are opportunities for this with waste management plans for demolition, new development, and redevelopment projects.
-
Develop a closed-loop system and relevant policies to offset the demolition of homes and blight removal that can produce a large amount of waste entering landfills in Southeast Michigan.
-
A policy for new developments to develop a construction waste management plan.
-
Enforce the City Council Sustainability Checklist for new developments.
-
-
A policy that requires new developments to plan for double- or triple- waste streams that make waste diversion simple for residents, tenants, etc.
-
Continue to fulfill the requirements of the 2021 Event Waste Reduction Resolution. Including tracking use of the guidebook and creating supporting materials for event organizers.
